This particular blade, this orange one is actually a bigger blade than this normal stock. This one is a 9.8 as opposed to normally he makes a 9.0. And he just sent me two proto-types. These are them and I tried the big one first.Evan Leong: So these are not in the market yet?Doug Lock: No, they just came out. Well, they just came out. We just started selling them this week.Evan Leong: Are the blade designs different at all?Doug Lock: No, blade design is the same, the same shape. Itrsquo;s just that this one has a larger area, this, of course, a .8 difference from this.Evan Leong: So he still puts dihedral in the bottomhellip;Doug Lock: Same design yes. Dihedral still in the blade and I particularly like it because of the smoothness it goes through the water. After talking to Terrell, he was saying that Dave Kalama likes to paddle with a 10.0.Evan Leong: 10rsquo;0rdquo;?Doug Lock: 10rsquo;0rdquo;, yeah. So he made a 9.8rdquo; for me to try and I tried it and now this is a paddle I like to use.Evan Leong: So thatrsquo;s the one yoursquo;re using now? Even for surfing?Doug Lock: Especially for surfing.Evan Leong: Really?Doug Lock: Yeah. And a lot of people like to go with a smaller blade but Irsquo;ve been finding that I feel like this blade, since it fiberglass, it has more flex.Evan Leong: Letrsquo;s see that.Doug Lock: So if you look at the carbon you can see the flex in the blade itself. This is of course the shaft bending as well but there is definitely more width with the blade than there is in the shaft which almost is kind of like a swim fin theory. When yoursquo;re kicking, the end of the fin is flexing where the part of your foot is more stiff. It was kind of a theory I was thinking, it worked. I mean Jim wanted to make something kind of morehellip;Evan Leong: These handles are kind of cool.Doug Lock: Yeah, I just put EVA foam on them, comfortable. You donrsquo;t get those mean callus.Evan Leong: This is cool too, this Kialoa handle and shaft.Doug Lock: Yeah, I havenrsquo;t tried that paddle yet but this shaft and everything is just unreal, yeah. Beautifully done.Evan Leong: The shaft is nice on this thing.Doug Lock: No doubt. This to me is a very comfortable feel but itrsquo;s got ahellip;I like the way it is done, very nicely done.Evan Leong: The swing weight on this thing is pretty nice.Doug Lock: Yeah, yeah.Evan Leong: Irsquo;m wondering on this blade though. If you look at the blade itrsquo;s flat on the bottom.Doug Lock: Thatrsquo;s going to be interesting. Irsquo;m so used to a dihedral I got to bring it on and see what it does. But yeah, with the flat, a lot of people are liking the flat.Evan Leong: Interesting huh?Doug Lock: Interesting, everyone has got their own theory, which is pretty neat.Evan Leong: So the big blade is not throwing you off when yoursquo;re surfing?Doug Lock: No it doesnrsquo;t. I thought it would because it is such a big blade. I thought I was going to be better as a downwind blade and it probably will be but it seems like to me so far that it has been great for surfing. I have yet to bring it down the run and see how that feels too. Itrsquo;s easy on the shoulders. They didnrsquo;t feel so rigid. It felt it has a really nice flex to it. Not too flexy.[gallery=72]</itunes:summary> <itunes:keywords>Gear,Reviews,,Paddles</itunes:keywords> <itunes:author>StandUpPaddleSurf.net</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:block>No</itunes:block>

Infinity Surf Shop’s Ottertail Blade Stand Up Paddle – Review

Gear Reviews

Paddles

blade

infinity surf

infinity surf paddle

otter blade

otter blade paddle

ottertail

paddle

stand up

stand up paddle

stand up paddle surf

stand up paddle surfing

stand up paddling

steve boehne

suqre blade

tail

I got 2 Infinity Surf ottertail paddles for my birthday in November and so far have only been able to test it a number of conditions. This is one of the first paddles that came out along with the C4rsquo;s older one. This is Surftech Laird.Evan Leong: The blade looks kind of different, huh?Jeff: The blade is different.Evan Leong: Kind of square-ish looking.Jeff: Yeah, itrsquo;s one of the first ones that came out.Evan Leong: Therersquo;s no dihedral really on this thing either, huh? Itrsquo;s just a little bit convex. If you look at this you can see a little bit convex. And then the shaft is kind of that weaved looking type shaft.Jeff: Itrsquo;s all carbon though. Itrsquo;s for the people who like that traditional oar shape.Evan Leong: Looks like a similar kind of T-top.Jeff: Actually Surftech is coming out with a whole new line of paddles in 2008 ndash; they will be actually made by Quickblade.Evan Leong: Oh ok. Will they look pretty much like Quickblade then? And then how about those wood paddles?Jeff: Letrsquo;s look at this one first. This is the Art-In-Surf paddles. This is actually one of my favorites.Evan Leong: Art-In-Surf. Who produces Art-In-Surf?Jeff: Itrsquo;s made by some guys in Brazil and itrsquo;s pretty unique. Therersquo;s a two-piece, but they also have a one piece. Itrsquo;s got a really nice feel So the unique thing about this paddle is that it has got more curve than any of the othershellip;Evan Leong: You mean the scoophellip;Jeff: Yeah, the scoop ndash; so it wraps the water pretty well in the surf. Doesnrsquo;t have the dihedral but it seems pretty stable.Jeff: And yeah, nice paddle and also good price, 310, actually 285 for the one piece ndash; all-carbon paddle.Evan Leong: Itrsquo;s a nine-inch blade? Looks kind of big.Jeff: Nine-inch yeah. And 310 for the two-piece. I like this paddle, I use it in the surf. Next we are going to the Kialoa. This is the 9-inch. They also make 8 frac12; and again you look at the blade theyrsquo;re all really similar.Evan Leong: They all look similar but they are different. This one has a lower dihedral piece, much lower. Look at that, and the contour right here is different, yeah?Jeff: Yeah, itrsquo;s a little more turned down. This is theyrsquo;re aluminum shaft carbon blade. They also have a full-carbon paddle, which wersquo;re sold out of right now.Evan Leong: Why did they go aluminum shaft?Jeff: This one is indestructible. If you have problems breaking paddles you got to get this one because you canrsquo;t break this one.Evan Leong: This aluminum is it light?Jeff: Not bad. But itrsquo;s really stiff and itrsquo;s really strong.Evan Leong: Can you dent the aluminum?Jeff: I donrsquo;t think so. Maybe you could but I havenrsquo;t seen it yet.Evan Leong: have you used that paddle?Jeff: Uh huh and itrsquo;s really stiff. Got good power. So this one is ndash; actually the aluminum is slight ovalized. I think the C4 also has a slightly ovalized, whereas the Quickblade is round. So, Kilo and C4 use an ovalized griphellip; ok then down here we got the wood paddles. These are the Kinimakas, shipped by Leleo. He is one of the best stand up surfers in the world. So this has got some lineage to this paddle ndash; the Kinimaka family; long-time paddling, surfing family in Hawaii.Evan Leong: This is Blane Chambers signature model?Jeff: Yes. And he also has a dovetail model, which is really u...</itunes:summary> <itunes:keywords>Gear,Reviews,,Paddles</itunes:keywords> <itunes:author>StandUpPaddleSurf.net</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:block>No</itunes:block>

Stand Up Paddles at Wet Feet Hawaii – Video Part 1

Gear Reviews

Paddles

stand up boat surfing

stand up paddle

stand up paddle surf

stand up paddle surfing

standup paddle

standup paddle surf

wet feet

wet feet hawaii

www.standuppaddlesurf.net

Jeff of Wet Feet takes us through their inventory of paddles from a variety manufacturers namely C4, Surftech, and Quick Blade. Welcome to Wet Feet. Wersquo;re I guess the worldrsquo;s only stand up store, specializing in stand up, that we know of. So we got a big selection of paddles here, probably the biggest yoursquo;ll find anywhere. Irsquo;ll start from my left.Evan Leong: Ok.Jeff: Ok, this is a steering paddle, C4. Steering paddle for surfing, canoe; big paddler will get a shot of it.Evan Leong: How about the wooden one?Jeff: This is an ornamental paddle. This is hang on the wall for looks. This is a quick blade, will start with this one. This is one of our more popular paddles. Full carbon.Evan Leong: Has some kind of a, what is this camouflage thing over here?Jeff: Yeah, you got a choice of grips with this one. Either you get that T top with an EVA wrap on it, so itrsquo;s really grippy. Or you can get the regular molded onehellip;Evan Leong: So the EVA wrap one, can you buy that after or you have to buy the T in advance, like that?Jeff: They can choose what ever one you want. And then we cut them and we size them to fithellip;Evan Leong: So the EVA wrap one on that is not from Quickblade orhellip;?Jeff: It is, it is an option from them.Evan Leong: Kind of cool.Jeff: Yes, you can choose whatever one you want. So when you get to the good paddles, you notice that all the shapes are all similar. They all have this shapes ndash; this one and the C4 and the Kilo, theyrsquo;re all very similar. So they got them pretty dialed in. And they all have this dihedral here. Itrsquo;s kind of a spine coming down the middle here and what that does is that it helps stabilize the paddle in the pool so it doesnrsquo;t wobble so much when you pull back. One thing about the C4 paddle is it has got thishellip;Evan Leong: This one is Quickblade, yeah?Jeff: Irsquo;m sorry, Quickblade, yeah. It has got this inlayed rubber edge so that when you bang your board it doesnrsquo;t ding your board up. So this is unique to the Quickblade. Itrsquo;s got a round shaft ndash; this one has a round shaft. Itrsquo;s kind of got ahellip;Evan Leong: Kind of flexible thoughhellip;Jeff: Yeah, pretty flexi shaft. But they have two shafts. They have a stiffer one, so this is the flexier shaft. It kind of has an inter-leaf carbon. A carbon that kind of goes like this.Evan Leong: So whatrsquo;s the difference between the stiff shaft and then the regular shaft thatrsquo;s a little bit more flexible?Jeff: I guess the idea ndash; Irsquo;m not an expert in, I havenrsquo;t been paddling for a zillion years like a lot of these guys. But what you feel when you paddle is that the catch is kind of slow and then if you finish it, it kind of accelerates through the stroke like a swimmer that starts slow and finishes fast. Thatrsquo;s kind of the idea with the flexier shaft, you have a little whip at the end so that it accelerates you. Some guys like that, itrsquo;s all personal preference. But he does have a stiffer shaft so depending on what you want and you can see the difference in.Evan Leong: Oh yeah, like the weave looks different and stuff, huh?Jeff: Yeah, you can see the difference. So this one on the right, it is stiffer and this one on the left is flexier. Letrsquo;s try this onehellip; interesting.Evan Leong: And both of these have thehellip;Jeff: You can choose whatever one you want. It comes with either that orhell...</itunes:summary> <itunes:keywords>Gear,Reviews,,Paddles</itunes:keywords> <itunes:author>StandUpPaddleSurf.net</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:block>No</itunes:block>

Stand up paddle grip review

Accessories

Gear Reviews

Paddles

Uncategorized

c4 waterman

grip

paddle grip

stand up paddle

stand up paddle grip

stand up paddle surf

stand up paddle surfing

standup paddle

standup paddle surf

I just put on the C4 grip on my stand up paddle. I have another one that's 80" long which I use for downwind paddles and when I let my friends use my other boards. I think I installed it wrong but it still works. I don't know if I like the grip diameter being so big but it does make the paddle easier on my hands and add a lot of extra grip. I like that it's a bright color which makes it easy to spot in the water if I drop it. The downside is that when it gets dirty it looks really dirty.Full C4 78" stand up paddle:C4 stand up paddle grip:Here's the video:(click thumbnail to launch video)</itunes:summary> <itunes:keywords>Accessories,,Gear,Reviews,,Paddles,,Uncategorized</itunes:keywords> <itunes:author>StandUpPaddleSurf.net</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:block>No</itunes:block>

Save your rails on your stand up paddle surfboard with video

Accessories

Gear Reviews

Paddles

Uncategorized

infinity surf

rail

stand up paddle

stand up paddle surf

stand up paddle surfing

standup paddle surf

surf rail

When I first started stand up paddle surfing I would hit the rails of the stand up board A LOT. I still hit it and have even taken chunks out of the rails. The carbon fiber stand up paddles are strong and easily dent and ding the epoxy boards. My friend's board looks like a shark ate the rail. It is wasted almost the entire length of the rail. I gotta get a picture to post but I don't think he'll like that. The first solution was to tape up the edge of the stand up paddle with electric tape. That works reasonably well but a hard hit and the gel coat comes off the rail. Then I tried 'rim rubber' which is made for kayak paddles. It looks like door jam material and you use Aqua Seal glue to make it stick. It looks and works great on kayak paddles because they are relatively flat on the blade. The stuff costs something like $30 and there's a problem when doing stand up paddles. The stand up paddles don't have the sharp flat blade a kayak paddle has. The stand up paddle blade is beveled which means the rim rubber won't let the glue set because it's slipping off. Go Bananas Kayaks tried putting tape on the rim rubber to hold it in place while the glue set but it leaked out the edges and basically looked like crap. I put 2" wide electric tape on it to hide the ugliness. I could have pulled it off but it took so much effort to get on I just left it.THEN I FOUND THE SOLUTION: I found it at www.infinitysurf.com. They have this rubber molding that goes around the paddle blade and has a strip of glue in it already. There is no mess and it sticks immediately. The best thing is it only costs $1.50 per foot and you need about 3 feet for a stand up paddle. I've been using it for the past month and it works awesome. I can feel myself still hitting my rails on the board with the paddle but there's not even a mark anymore. What if it starts falling off? Who cares because it was less than $10 w/ shipping. I'll just put more on. I'll post some pictures so you can see what I'm talking about and why I'm so excited. Here's the video (click the thumbnail to view):This is what the rim guard for the stand up paddle blade looks like:
Here are some pictures of the rim guard on my C4 paddle:
Here's the blade of my paddle with yellow electric tape over the rim guard:
Infinity Surf suggested that I put a little super glue on the ends of both sides of the rim guard so It will stay on. I chose to use electric tape instead so in case I want to pull it off and change it, I won't have a part super stuck. On a side note, if you're wondering how the close up macro shot on this is so clear it's because the Sony DSC-T30 camera has a cool "magnifying glass" feature that takes unreal macro pictures. I also made a short video so you can see what the stand up paddle edge protection looks like.</itunes:summary> <itunes:keywords>Accessories,,Gear,Reviews,,Paddles,,Uncategorized</itunes:keywords> <itunes:author>StandUpPaddleSurf.net</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:block>No</itunes:block>
