2014 Duke’s OceanFest Distance Race

Here are some photos from the 2014 Duke’s OceanFest distance race. The race is officially titled the Hawaii Paddleboard Championships but it’s easier to call it the Duke’s race. This year had pretty good wind but a hard opposing tide. There was also a South swell bringing in head high waves which made this a […]

2013 Stand Up World Series at Turtle Bay Day 2: Sprint Races

The second day of the 2013 Stand Up World Series Finals at Turtle Bay was pretty crazy. The sprint races on day 2 were in north shore waves up to double overhead and pitching hard. I’m surprised that no one was badly injured. In retrospect, some of the racers probably would have been better off […]

2013 Hawaii Paddleboard Championship – Duke’s Race

This year’s Duke’s Oceanfest had incredibly nice weather…lucky we live in Hawaii. After a long trip through Alaska, it was nice to be home, although I must say we were blessed with super good weather in Alaska too. The SUP distance race during the Duke’s Oceanfest is called the Hawaii Paddleboard Championships and started off […]

Kevin Seid Surfing Everpaddle Surf SUP at Jocko’s

Here are some pictures of Kevin Seid SUP surfing at Jocko’s on Oahu’s North Shore. He rode one of the custom Everpaddle boards he shaped and designed specifically for the north shore of Oahu. The board is around 8′ but I’m not 100% sure on that. Set waves that day came in around double overhead.

North Shore Challenge Distance Race

Here are some more pictures from the 2011 North Shore Challenge. These ones are from the distance race on day 2. The start was late and I was on a time schedule. The launch was from the Kawela Bay side of Turtle Bay and finish was at Haleiwa. Since the race started late, I had […]

2011 North Shore Challenge Surf Race

Above photo is Zane Schweitzer throwing up a winning hand sign after he clinches the win. I was sick, hurt ribs and on antibiotics but I made the drive to this race and was happy in my decision. The race was held at the Turtle Bay Resort which is a little over an hour drive […]

Haleiwa Joe’s Labor Day Race

I was at Waimea Bay when the Haleiwa Joe’s Race started but didn’t race. I’ve been taking some time off from paddling after my board hit me in the ribs a week and a half ago. The X-ray’s showed no break but I still can’t lie on my stomach. Hopefully I’ll be back in action […]

Everpaddle SUP Deck Bag and Elastic Cord Netting

Kevin Seid from Everpaddle showed me a couple of their SUP board accessories, the Everpaddle Deck bag and the Everpaddle Elastic Cord Netting. These are great options for touring, cruising or camping. The bag and net are light weight and look pretty durable. Kevin, the founder of Everpaddle is an avid SUP paddler and racer […]

Kevin Seid shows Everpaddle Bamboo and Carbon Fiber Stand Up Paddle – Video Interview

I shot this video of Kevin Seid from Everpaddle at the Wet Feet Hawaii expansion party. I got a chance to try this for a couple waves out at Puena Point. It’s really light weight and the look and feel is very cool. I’m waiting to see what they come out with in smaller blade […]

Duke’s Oceanfest Hawaii Paddleboard Championships Saturday, August 23, 2008

I finally did my first race yesterday and it was harder than I expected. The course was 10 miles from Hawaii Kai (start in front of Marshall Rose’s house) on the Koko Head side of the Koko Marina bridge, around the last green channel marker (blinkey), past Diamond Head, around a buoy set outside of […]
