Molokai to Oahu – 32 mile Crossing across the Ka’iwi Channel. Before this race I felt so prepared because that week I ate super good, drank lots of water and rested. My mom and I went over to Molokai Friday night on the Ferry to Kaunakakai. Then headed over to the west side and stayed […]

Here’s an F-20 from SIC. Yes, you read it right, 20 feet long. This was shaped for Junya who is not a small guy.

I just competed in the Naish Paddleboard Championships in Maui. What a great race. Well organized and really fun. It started at Maliko Gulch and finished at the Kahului Harbor – about 9 1/2 miles.

The Mormaii 27 Mile Pailolo Express held on Sunday July 11th. Otherwise know as the Maui to Molokai Crossing. The first time I did this crossing I was 8 1/2 years old – and I windsurfed across it. But this time I did it – I WON FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!

July 11th, 2010 Kaunakakai, Hawaii- The Mormaii Molokai Pailolo Express Race presented by Standup Paddle Magazine lived up to expectation Sunday as gusts as high as 20 knots delivered the goods for 28 Elite paddlers. I’d like to give a big “THANK YOU!” to the crew in Maui for letting me tag along with them for a couple downwinders. Mark Raaphorst, Randy Strome, Jack Dyson, Livio Menelau, Chris and Donna. Also, thanks to Pono Bill for letting me use his leash. Coming from Oahu, I thought we were spoiled (and […]

Congratulations to Connor Baxter for winning the Stand Up Solo division at the 2010 Sarento’s/Kai Wa’a Maui to Moloka’i Challenge. Here’s a recap of the race from Connor. I just finished the Maui to Molokai event on Saturday April 24th, put on by the Maui Canoe and Kayak Club (www.mauicanoeandkayak.org). The race was really fun […]

Here’s a look at the new SIC X14 race board. This is the flat water design that Mark Raaphorst designed for short course races like Battle of the Paddle. These boards are especially good for riders under 200 lbs but the X14 seems to be able to float me pretty well at 205 lbs.

Looks like Mark made some dramatic changes to the S-16 SUP Standamaran. I’m still waiting for an update on how it rides compared to the earlier versions. Looks pretty slick though.

The F-16 v2 is the best F series board I’ve ridden to date. After the first Hawaii Kai run, I decided that the F-16 v2 was the best planing hull F series board I had tried but after 3 sessions in various conditions I now think that it’s even better than my F-18. The board […]

I recently visited Mark Raaphorst at the S.I.C. headquarters in Maui and got to check out one of his latest creations, the S-16 Standamaran racing SUP stand up paddle board. The S-16 is surprisingly fast, especially going upwind. Upwind paddling is actually fun on this board. I shot some video of Mark explaining about the […]

Here’s the next creation from the mind of Mark Raaphorst. This is crazy. Mark says the S-16 can sustain a 6.5 mph pace…unreal. I’ll check it out on Maui next week. (click thumbnail to launch video)
