Santa Monica — The world famous Santa Monica Pier and the Honolua Surf Co. will kick off the summer of 2011 with the Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race and Ocean Festival, featuring paddleboard races, dory competitions, outrigger canoes, live music and a surfing, lifeguard and paddleboard “museum for the day”.

Despite the lingering threat of the Tsunami Warning the C4 Waterman Kalapaki Challenge presented by the Garden Isle Tri-fest achieved all its goals Saturday. A grass roots event designed to support the growing SUP community on Kauai and entice cross-over athletes from the triathlon walk-of-life; the twisted bow-tie race course was both challenging and fun.

It’s with great excitement that we announce the 2nd Annual NAC Hovie SUP Festival. Newport Harbor’s largest Stand Up Paddle (SUP) competition will be held April 9th, 2011 at the Newport Aquatic Center. The NAC Hovie SUP Festival Race is a benefit for the “NAC Youth Waterman’s Academy” proceeds will be directed to NAC foundation.

Here’s the latest in the S.I.C. Stand Up Paddle race board line, the X-12. I shot this at the S.I.C. factory during my last trip to Maui. This is just of the CNC machine cutting the foam but it’s pretty neat to see how the beginning process works.

The Mormaii 27 Mile Pailolo Express held on Sunday July 11th. Otherwise know as the Maui to Molokai Crossing. The first time I did this crossing I was 8 1/2 years old – and I windsurfed across it. But this time I did it – I WON FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!
