The Stand Up World Series comes home to Turtle Bay for the Finals

Turtle Bay to host the Stand Up World Series Finals

In all sports there are the proving grounds, the place where it all began and the place where it will always return to. For the world of ocean sports, Hawaii has long been regarded as ‘that place’: the birthplace of surfing and stand up paddling and the roots of surf culture as we know it.

It only seems appropriate therefore that the Stand Up World Series, as the global platform for the sport of Stand up Paddle racing, should return home to Hawaii for its climactic final, and where better than to the seven mile miracle that is the North Shore of Oahu and more specifically, the ultimate watersports arena found at Turtle Bay.

From the 12th – 14th October, Turtle Bay Resort will transform into a spectacular amphitheater as the inaugural season for the Stand Up World Series comes to a close and culminates in front of the property for the world to see.

The World’s best to battle it out for the Title & $15,000

The world’s best will congregate at Turtle Bay for some of the most spectacular racing of the year as they battle it out for both event and World Title, as well as $15,000 in prize-money. The event will feature a spectacular long distance race from Turtle Bay to Haleiwa, a course that will take in some of the world’s most famous surfbreaks, from Sunset Beach and Pipeline to Waimea.

Meanwhile, the sprint course, aptly coined the paddlecross after last weekend’s World Series event in Florida, will take place in front of Hang Ten Bar on the west side of the property as athletes will follow a triangle course out through the surf in front of a cliff lined with spectators, only to turn the last buoy and pray for a set wave to take them into victory: nature’s own maginificent sports stadium.

Something for everyone at the World Series Finals

Aside for the Championship Racing, we have also opened up the long distance race to both 14′ and open class paddlers as a part of our Local Heroes division on Saturday 13th October. All participants should enter online at register.standupworldseries.com

Meanwhile on saturday morning, we will be running a ‘Na Kama Kai Challenge’ on the all new Naish ‘One’ inflatable board class on the east side of the property in front of Ola’s Restaurant. From 8.30am, a race course and Pro Mentors will be on hand for youth from all over to take part in a unique racing experience aboard the all new Naish One Class.

Featuring a simple figure of 8 course, the kids will race the trademark heat format seen in the World Series sprint racing to earn their place on the podium and to win their very own Naish One board, amongst other prizes.

Naish One Sprint Racing Class featured at Turtle Bay

The Naish ‘One’ inflatable board class is to be featured at this prestigious World Championship Finals at Turtle Bay on Sunday 14th Ocober for the sprint racing format.

With $2,000 prize-money up for grabs, the Naish One Board class is open to everyone, and boards will be on hand for all participants, as they step onto the same playing field and battle it out for gold on the World Series sprint racing course.

Hawaii musicians to headline throughout the weekend

The social schedule for the weekend reads more like a who’s who in Hawaiian Music. From Pacifico’s Welcome night at Surfer the Bar on Friday 12th October that will feature Paula Fuga and Mike Love, to Saturday night’s dinner and party at Surfer the Bar featuring Ernie Cruz and finishing with Sunday evening’s Luau, live music and dance event featuring Ocean Sports legend Braddah Mel Pu’u and the Step Ups, the caliber of the social schedule matches the intense competition that will take place throughout the weekend on the water.

One thing is for sure, it will be a weekend not to be missed, whether you are a competitor, spectator or just up for a good time: Pacifico’s Stand Up World Series Finals at Turtle Bay will have something for everyone.

Stand Up World Series Finals to provide climactic finale

From the intense rivarly developing between current rankings leader Kai Lenny (Naish) and #2 Connor Baxter (Starboard), who was leading up until the last event in Florida, to the incredible consistency of Slater Trout, France’s Eric Terrien (Bic SUP) and the two representatives from Punta Sayulita, Ryan Helm and Fernando Stalla (Rogue), the heat is on coming into this climactic final showdown for 2013.

Also to watch out for is North Shore Paddle Challenge Sprint winner from 2011, Zane Schweitzer (Starboard), who excels in the sprint format at Turtle Bay, but also some some of the newer blood on Tour such as Kody Kerbox (Naish), Dean Christener (JP Australia), Casper Steinfath (Naish) from Denmark. However, this is just touching the surface, as the talent runs deep and far, with 16 different nations participating across the Stand Up World Series in 2012, as we come to a close for its inaugural year.

We are back on the North Shore of Oahu, so some of the most dangerous dark horses will be the local community, with Noa Ginella (Naish) and the young Mo Freitas heading up a star studded local field, but also never forgetting Kaeo Abby (Art in Surf), Andrew Logreco and the Napoleon family, who never cease to impress and make their presence felt.

Women’s competition to prove fierce at Turtle Bay

While Annabel Anderson (Starboard) from New Zealand has been dominating the international stops on the Stand Up World Series, returning to Hawaii she will face some of the fiercest competition yet, as Hawaii, US and international competitors will congregate to stake their claim here at Turtle Bay.

Watch out for Rachel Bruntsch, Morgan Hoesterrey, Mariko Strickland from Kauai and many more, as the women step up for the Stand Up World Series Finals at Turtle Bay.
