4th Annual John “Pops” Ah Choy Surf Fest (2013)

The dates of this year’s event is set:

September 14 & 15, 2013!! 

Our 3rd Annual Surf Fest was the best yet, and hope to top it this year with your help!!  We would like to thank all the contestants and sponsors that contributed to making it such a memorable event. 

 This year we will be holding our 4th Annual John “Pops” Ah Choy Surf Fest on September 14-15, 2013.  Along with our usual divisions, we will be adding new events–a high school team relay race and a high school division. So we want all of you high school surf teams to enter!  Check below for divisions and registration forms.  Come down and join us for two fun-filled days of surfing and music.  

In addition to the music and surf, we also celebrate the beach boys by honoring those who dedicate their lives to spreading the spirit of aloha through surf.  This year’s ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 14th.  Ceremony will begin at 7:00am.

Proceeds from the contest will be donated to the Aloha Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to aid in the fight against this widespread disease.  If you would like to make a donation to the John “Pops” Ah Choy Foundation, you may mail checks or money orders payable to the John “Pops” Ah Choy Foundation to the following address:

Date: September 14th & 15th, 2013      Location: Kuhio Beach, Waikiki

Time: 7:00 a.m. Check-In for all divisions 

Fee (NO REFUNDS AFTER SEPTEMBER 1st):

Entry Fee- $30.00

(first 100 entries received by August 15th will receive a free contest t-shirt and hard hat)

Additional Event- $20.00

Pro-Am Division- $100.00 ($25.00 to Charity & $75.00 to Purse)

Tandem (Adult w/child 13 & under)- $40.00

NEW! High School Division (Two Person Team 14-17yrs) $40.00 per team

Go Johnny Go/Go Jane Go (Two Person Relay Race)- $40.00 per team

 Youth Go Johnny Go/Go Jane Go (Two Person Relay Race)- $40.00 per team

NEW! High School Go Johnny Go/Go Jane Go (Two Person Relay Race 14-17yrs)- $40.00 per team 

Beach Entry Fee: $40.00 cash (NO EXCEPTIONS)

MENEHUNE (Girls)- 13 years & Below

MENEHUNE (Boys)- 13 years & Below

BOYS- 14 to 17 years

GIRLS- 14 to 17 years 

WOMENS- 18 to 39 years

WOMEN MASTERS- 40 to 54 years

WOMEN SENIORS- 55 years & Older 

MENS- 18 to 29 years

**SPECIAL DIVISIONS (Top 2 Places for Tandem/Relay/Team Divisions):

PRO-AM- Open (All Ages)

NEW! HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION- 14-17 years 

  • This division is for pairs of any gender combination (i.e. 2 females, 2 males, 1 male-1female); teams must be made up of students from the same school.  Both contestants will participate in SUP surfing.  The team will be judged on their combined score.

NEW! HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION GO JOHNNY/JANE GO RELAY- 14-17 years 

  • This division is for pairs of any gender combination (i.e. 2 females, 2 males, 1 male-1female); teams must be made up of students from the same school.  A shorter version of our Go John/Jane Go race, & will be a100 yards relay race.  SEE BELOW.

TANDEM ADULT & CHILD- child 13 & younger

  • This division is for adult-child pairs.  Only the adult contestant must have a paddle and use it during the heat. Contestants will be awarded points based on creativity, costumes, props, and theatrics scores points.   

GO JOHNNY GO RELAY- Men 18 years & older

GO JANE GO RELAY- Women 18 years & older

  • This division is a two-person ¼ mile relay race (male couples and female couples).  Couples will start on the beach and race straight out to Queens and back while dressed as “Pops”! “Pops” outfit will be provided by organizers.

YOUTH GO JOHNNY GO RELAY- Boys 17 years & younger

YOUTH GO JANE GO RELAY- Girls 17 years & younger

  • This division is a two-person 100 yards relay race similar to the adult Go Johnny/Jane Go Relay.  

BOBBY’S CHAIR- OPEN

  • Bobby Ah Choy could be found photographing tourists out at Waikiki while sitting on a chair on top of his board.   Contestants will have a chance to be like Bobby, and paddle surf while sitting on a chair and will be judged on creativity, props, and theatrics.  Contestants must have their own chair/stool

 

CHECK OUT THE CROWD PLEASING BUSINESS DIVISION!! 

BUSINESS DIVISION (Trophies Awarded to 1st-3rd Place Teams):

  • This division is a three-person team 100 yards relay race.  Teams must be comprised of employees from the same company.  Teams will start on the beach and race straight out to Baby Queens and back while dressed as “Pops”! “Pops” outfit will be provided by organizers.

 

Fee (NO REFUNDS AFTER SEPTEMBER 1st):

Business Division (Three Person Team Relay Race)- $60.00 per team

All members must be employees of the same company.

Beach Entry Fee: $90.00 cash per team (NO EXCEPTIONS)

 DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: SEPTEMBER 1, 2013 (Accepting first 300 applications- Send ASAP)
