One Mile Beach Military Zone

Posted 4 hours ago

One Mile Beach Port Stephens has been officially declared a military zone. All three Forces have fortified their positions on the beach and Charlie SUPs are excluded from the adjacent surf zone.

Oh, good thing is that even without the heavy artillery the whole beach is just one big nasty closeout. Anyone entering the waves is bound to get blasted anyway you look at it.

Drafting

Vid over on sup racer by the quick blade man talking about drafting , he is all for it.
How do you racers feel about it , would you be pissed if someone drafted you a whole race then went past you at the finish. Is there an un written rule amongst racers that you share the work load. I would rekon i would be hard to draft in open ocean conditions , but still water is a different story.
I only bring this up because i plan to draft as many people as possible in the creek to creek race and dont want anyone getting pissed with me

SUP in the Olympics?

Posted 15 hours ago

Apologies if this has been raised before…..but I'm curious to know if there is any movement to have SUP'ing included as an Olympic discipline? I'm guessing a straight out drag race a la kayaking would be the go as that way there wouldn't be any drafting involved, there would be lanes and 1 person to a lane. In saying that though there could be an open water event held with the yacht regatta. Seems like a pretty seamless integration to me and an opportunity to highlight and showcase the fastest growing watersport in the world. It is certainly a sport with a participation factor numbering no doubt in the many hundreds of thousands around the world so it seems to meet all the criteria for inclusion….. [Link]

2012 Naish Glide 12'6 Fin

Posted 16 hours ago

Hi everybody.
I’m looking for a fin to replace in my Naish Glide 12´6, the original one allows me only 5 or 6 strokes per side in flatwater. I'm thinking in the FCS Danny Ching fin or any other that gives me at least 10 strokes per side.
Has anybody tried the DC FCS?
I’m 100 kg, any suggestions?

First race board for the big fella

Posted 19 hours ago

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get into racing, and have been for a while.

One point, is that the beach series here in Auckland is going to limit us to using only 12'6 boards so that is my limitation on size.

I have the opportunity to get hold of a Exocet 12'6 carbon at a great price, and also and almost new 12'6 F-one. Has anyone got any reviews on those.

I am also able to demo, the starboard and naish ranges, the corban and also the Fanatic, which I have heard great things about.

Could all you experience racers please let me know what you think.

I am 6 foot 4 and 110kgs and hope to get into everything from 3.5km BOP races and then get into down winders to.

cheers

graeme

Is Magic Paddle the best SUP vid ever?

Have been trolling my new TV Youtube channel and finally watched the Magic Paddle part 1.

I was in histerical laughter at the skits and on the big screen was literally leaning and moving through the turns of the surfing.

This is great, if you can watch it on the big screen.

State and National Titles My thoughts!!!

Posted 27 hours ago

I know I just posted this under another heading but then thought it my be a second topic I am not trying to put down Surfing NSW in any way I am just trying to get across my point of view.
If I combined the cost of joining Surfing NSW $60 and the entry for Comp$55 with the cost of Day care for the grom $90 x 2days plus after school care for my Daughter $22 x 2 plus 20hrs leave from work because its Thursday and Friday it adds up to me no being able to attend!!!
As for being on week days not to upset the locals then we are allways going to be playing 2nd fiddle to what others would call mainstream surfing!!!!!
They do not hold the shortboard or Mal titles mid week…
And Surfing titles should be held in locations that are know for having Good to Great waves so the Surfers can show the highest level of there skills (I am not trying to put down One Mile) But since the dream tour became the dream tour by having the events at great locations at the good time of the year the sponsorship …

Close Out Beachbreak Waves Today – Video.

Posted 39 hours ago

Today’s waves; Every once in a while, a clean and peeling wave snuck through but between those, some very straight and menacing 3-4 footers came in and if they didn't get us on the paddle out, they sucked us into a take-off that didn't often end well.

Fun all the same though, beautiful sunrise, mates sharing the line-up and good times.

The Coreban Cruiser felt great with some push behind it too.

Wave of the day was wave number 1 for me. Not filmed as it was still VERY dark and not being able to see 2 foot in front of me, maybe it was only the best of the session as I couldn't actually see it and acted on feel alone – who knows.

A stroke of luck today too and as a result I suggest all GoPro users buy the orange fluro 'stick on' float. On one flogging, the GoPro clip snapped clean off the board disc and I felt that terrible feeling sighting my board minus my camera. After 5 minutes hunting the inside bank, the fluro orange float caught my eye on t…
