An epic close to the 2010 Stand Up World Tour
The Big Island of Hawaii provided the perfect setting for the climactic Finals of the 2010 Stand Up World Tour, with a welcome that surpassed any and all expectations, showcasing the true spirit of Aloha. From the County and its dynamic leader Mayor Billy Kenoi, to the support mechanism of the Paka crew at Honoli’i and our Big Island ambassador, Kalani Kahalioumi, the Big Island provided us with a welcome like no other, as they rolled out the red carpet for the 2010 Stand Up World Tour Finals.

I was at the Blue Planet Surf SUP Clinic and Demo Day held last Nov. 6, 2010 and got the chance to meet Doug Hopkins, product manager for Aquaglide Paddlesurf / Amundson Stand Up Paddle Boards, and the designer himself, John Amundson. They brought along some of their boards and one of them was the Amundson 12′6″ which I had the chance to try out a while back. The Amundson 12′6″ comes in two models, the TR and the TR-X. They are almost the same except the TR-X has a layer of carbon making it about 4 lbs lighter than the TR.

The Ice Man cometh….
By Mark Colino
If you live where temperatures go below freezing in the winter, you have 3 choices when it comes to flat water paddling; #1 Don’t ( Not acceptable if you’re truly hooked). #2 Buy a plane ticket to somewhere warm. #3 Dress appropriately and go!

Here are some pictures I took before the start of the 2010 Duke’s OceanFest SUP Race. The race had a good turnout this year with a lot of competitors. The conditions this year weren’t as good as in 2009, hence the slower times but the last 2 miles seemed to be the best I can remember. We had some wind but a bad tide slowed our times. The tide seemed to change toward the end which helped. So did the small surf. I rode the SIC Bullet 17′4″ and took a really far outside line. The only guy outside of me was a lie down paddle boarder and he was about 30 feet outside of me. Other than that, everyone else was inside of me. I think that probably hurt my overall time but I didn’t want to get stuck in the pack.

Aloha and Happy Holidays, Sports and Suncare fans!
Shonny Vanlandingham recently took a well deserved “break” after winning the Xterra World Championships in October, by winning the XTERRA Ceara’ Triathlon in Brazil. http://www.xterrabrazil.com/ Yep, Shonny “vacationed” in Fortaleza, finishing 6th overall among all competitors and keeping her streak of UREAL alive. Shonny dispatched that she was putting our new Formulation Two sunscreen to the test at the race and on “Insano”, the tallest water slide in the world at 41 meters! From the pics we have seen all over FB, looks like she certainly did.
