WPA sanctions Watermans Paddle for Humanity Series

World Paddle Association announces Paddle for Humanity events will qualify for regional and National rankings.

Orange County, CA, March 28, 2012 –The World Paddle Association (WPA) has sanctioned all Watermans Paddle for Humanity stops and qualified the event in Austin, TX, as a National qualifier. The WPA mission is to provide a comprehensive voice, fair and equal access and organizational structure to the sport of Stand Up Paddling (SUP) and its participants in a manner that benefits the collective paddling community.

Partnering with the Paddle for Humanity was a natural fit for the WPA. “The PFH is a great example of the community making an event their own,” says WPA founder Byron Kurt. “The three event format makes something available for everyone from beginner to Elite racer, everyone has a good time.” All PFH stops will feature two WPA points-events – the 5K short course and 5-lap rally race [long course] – with Texas set as a National Qualifier for November’s World Championships.

The World Paddle Association (WPA) crowned the first-ever standup paddle World Champions and regional champions in 2011. Hennessey’s and the World Paddle Association will hold the 2012 World SUP/Paddle Championships to be held in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on November 3 & 4, 2012.

The 2012 Waterman’s Paddle for Humanity will consist of 5 – April 28th in Dana Point, June 2nd Deerfield Beach Florida, July 7th Lake Tahoe, August 25th Washington DC and Sept 15th Austin Texas. Our stated goal is to raise $100,000 for our non-profit partners while increasing awareness to their causes and introducing communities to the sports of Paddling.
