Italia Surf Expo welcomes the final leg of the European Cup presented by Starboard

After an epic 4 stops on the European Cup presented by Starboard, we now head to Santa Severa Beach in Rome, Italy for the Final stop of the Cup and the $10,000 World Challenger Series event to take place this weekend.

The World SUP Challenge presented by Jeep forms part of the long standing Italia Surf Expo that brings together the water sports industry for a magical get together on the Beach in Rome. This year, the World Challenger Series event will also serve as the Finals for the European Cup presented by Starboard, closing what has been an amazing 2 months of racing.

It all started in Bilbao in the Basque Country of Spain, then headed to Oleron Island in France, Sieravuori in Finland, then Fehmarn this past weekend for the Camp David World Cup of SUP, as it all culminates this weekend in Rome for an extremely fitting festival event. World Class competition hits Santa Severa Beach for Stop 5 of the European Cup

The Racing will see some of the World’s best attend this final stop of the European Cup, including Australia’s Jake Jensen (Fanatic) who has great momentum at the moment after his 3rd place at the 3rd stop of the Stand Up World Series this past weekend.

However watch out for Europe’s leading lights who will be stepping up to be counted here at the Final stop for the all important European Title: Casper Steinfath (Naish) from Denmark, Eric Terrien (Bic SUP) from France, Roman Frejo (Starboard) from Spain and of course local favorite, Leonard Nika (Starboard) from right here in Rome.

In the women, Europe’s leading ladies will step up, as the athletes will be looking for vital points on the European Cup Ratings. In particular, Noelani Sach (Naish) from Germany will be looking to consolidate on her 5th place in Germany and win in Finland to secure a strong finish here in Italy.

Italia Surf Expo to celebrate not only the European Cup Finals, but Surf culture

The event itself will be a mix of surf expo, sports, culture and parties, as Italy celebrates the arrival of the World Challenger Series in Rome and one of the big weekends for Surf Culture in the country.

With product demos, lifestyle booths, movie premieres and Open Air parties, the World SUP Challenge in Rome will be a weekend to remember, as the European Cup is wrapped in epic fashion.

Up Next: the Shonan Chigasaki Pro, Japan, taking place from the 15th – 17th August

The Shonan Chigasaki Pro Japan, will bring the World of SUP to Asia for the first major international event in the sport’s history, as the foundations are laid for a bright future in the region and a selection of the World’s best will meet with hundreds of Japanese participants for a unique and groundbreaking event.

Twinned with the City of Honolulu, Chigasaki will celebrate the sport of Surfing from the 15th – 17th August to commemorate Duke Kahanamoku’s birthday and stage a World Class Challenger Series event, opening their arms to the sport of Stand Up Paddling.

With high profile athletes from Australia, Europe, Hawaii, the US and beyond, the event promises to be spectacular in every sense, as this quaint seaside town just outside of Tokyo is transformed into a hive of activity for the weekend of the 15th – 17th August.
