Izzi Gomez dominates the final day of competition and secures the win in France

Izzi Gomez (Starboard) has had an incredible year in 2014, as she secures the 2014 World Title in epic fashion here in France.

After a slow start at the Turtle Bay Women’s Pro earlier this year, Izzi then went onto win all 4 of the next events on her way to a mind blowing and well deserved World Title this year, defining what progressive stand up paddlesurfing should look like for the women and the incredible future that lies ahead for the sport.

Here at the 2014 La Torche Pro France Izzi did start off slow in her first heat, but then came back with a vengeance, powering her way through heats with the highest single waves and heat score totals of the event.

Izzi is leading the way for women’s stand up paddlesurfing right now, but there is no doubt that she will have her work cut out for her in 2015, as we see the Brazilian contingent (Nicole Pacelli and Aline Adisaka (New Advance), Candice Appleby, Iballa Moreno (Starboard) and an ever improving Sophia Tiare Bartlow step up to battle for the Title.

For the meantime though, Izzi has dominated this year’s World Championship Tour and is the well deserved World Champion for 2014 – a big congratulations to Izzi Gomez for her outstanding achievements this year.

Caroline Angibaud represents France proudly at home but on the global stage

Caroline Angibaud has been the leading light for France on the Stand Up World Tour over the past few years, posting strong performances in everywhere from Abu Dhabi to Hawaii, as her smooth, carving style has stood out across all the events.

Here at the La Torche Pro France, Caroline had a shaky start, but did manage to scrape through her opening heats and maintained her momentum all the way through to the Finals, to meet with the eventual Champion and 2014 World Champion Izzi Gomez (Starboard).

While she wasn’t able to take down the World Champion on her own turf, she put on an impressive display of fluid and stylish surfing to hold her own in a spectacular ‘woman on woman’ final.

There is no doubt that Caroline will continue to be a force to be reckoned with as the 2015 season will see her make her way back to Oahu’s Fabled North Shore for the 2015 Turtle Bay Women’s Pro in February.

Sophia Tiare Bartlow finds her form here at the last event of the 2014 season

Sophia Tiare Bartlow burst onto the scene back in February at the Turtle Bay Women’s Pro, finishing in 3rd place amidst an impressive collection of World Class athletes assembled for the first event of the 2014 Stand up World Tour.

She then followed the Tour in its entirety, but was unable to find the a good rhythm at the events that followed, that is until she got to France.

Posting some of the highest single wave and heat score totals of the event, round after round, Sophia put on an impressive display of high performance surfing, wave selection and lecture to make her way through to the semi finals.

Once in the semi finals however, she was unable to find the form of the previous rounds, falling short of advancement and having to settle for 3rd place overall for the event.

Despite the disappointment of not making the final, Sophia has proven to herself that she knows how to win and make heats, so will have refreshed confidence and great momentum going into the 2015 season. We look forward to seeing her making her mark next year.

The 2014 La Torche Pro France provides a dramatic finish to the 2014 season

The 2014 La Torche Pro France was blessed with exceptional conditions from start to finish.
