Spring Break

I’m pretty late on a lot of posts and this is no exception. Spring break in March was a blast. We got in a week in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu. Joe Blair was on island at the same time.

Joe’s going to kill me but I have to tell this [...]

Super Choppy Conditions at Mokuleia on Oahu North Shore

This is a quick video I shot while sitting on my board at Mokuleia late 2007. I couldn’t even stand up and paddle it was so choppy so I shot it so people can see how rough the water gets in Hawaii.

Tandem Stand Up Paddle Surf Video

Here’s a cool video courtesy of Heath Thompson from Waterlogged Video Productions. Check them out at http://www.tygurneysurfschool.com/video.html and give Heath a call at 808-292-9185 if you’re interested in hiring him to shoot your video.
This was shot on a day that my 5 year old son was off from school and I took [...]

Injury from Short Leash – Ouch

I used a short leash a couple weeks ago on the north shore and really liked it. I think the leash was 7’ or so and it made the board way easier to retrieve and seemed less in the way. I liked it so much I went and bought one the other day. [...]

Joe Blair 8-9 Stand Up Paddle Board - Video

I got a chance to hang out with Joe Blair during his recent trip to Oahu’s north shore. We surfed everyday and had a blast on this new 8′9″ x 30″ x 4.25″ stand up board. I was shocked that at 220 lbs I could stand on it comfortably. In fact, once [...]

Puena Point with friends and Jamie B from HawaiianWatershots.com

Check out this super glassy, fun day out at Puena Point on the North Shore of Oahu. I was out with my friend Jeff who is on the other stand up board and my friend Kekoa who’s riding a normal surfboard. The board I’m on is the Blair Quad 9’11” x 29” x [...]

Blair Surf 9-11 Quad Ripper - Review

I met up with Joe Blair initially last October at Legoland in San Diego. Joe is a very animated guy and has decades of shaping experience with legends like Dick Brewer and Xanadu. Anytime I hear a shaper tell me how good their boards are I take it with a grain of salt. [...]

Does a Wake Vest Make Me a Wus?

I don’t know how else to say this but I’m scared of big waves. My ‘big’ is double overhead and up. I’m less scared on the South Shore and more on the North Shore because the waves are so much stronger. The part that really bugs me is getting held under the [...]

Standing Up with SUP SurfMag and Haleiwa Bill

I’ve been waiting to get in the water for a few days because the rain and weather has been pretty terrible. Along with that, I had a pretty busy week of work. I got some time to sneak away yesterday to the North Shore of Oahu with my buddy Kekoa although I wasn’t [...]
