Backwash Surfing Oahu’s South Shore

In early July, the tide was really high on the south shore and created some interesting shore break. Check out how this breaks when it hits the wall and creates a backwash wave that can be surfed. The smaller kids were getting almost chest high rides. It was unreal. Dolan Eversole, one of the top paddlers in Hawaii was surfing the backwash with his kids and riding it back into the shorebreak. I shot this quick video on my phone.

Good stuff Evan, reminds me of our days in the 50s. Good clean, simple fun stuff.

This also reminds me of growing up on portlock road , being 8 years old and surfing my 8 foot long board down where the waves would splash off of the break water along the ocean front houses. there would be some 1 to 2 foot backwash coming off the breakwater and we would ride it for at least 30 yards. Man those were the days. I miss that !!
