CamSur World Paddle Challenge to make history next week as the first major stop for the sport in Asia

The CamSur World Paddle Challenge will make history next week as the first major Stand Up Paddle event in Asia, opening the market to some of the very best and most high performance Stand Up Paddling in their own backyard.

Athletes from Hawaii, Australia, the US, Brazil, Italy, France, Spain, New Zealand and from Asia itself will be descending upon CamSur and neighboring San Jose for Stop 2 and the first prime event of the 2012 season for the Stand Up World Series.

CamSur to host impressive selection of the world’s best

An international field of elite athletes will be making the trip to the Philippines next week to battle it out for the $20,000 prize-purse and vital ranking points towards their overall standings on the 2012 Stand Up World Series. With it all to play for in 2012, these athletes will be looking to consolidate on their position in the Series leading into the busy summer racing season.

Headliners include Racing phenom Connor Baxter (Starboard) from Maui, World Champion Stand Up Paddlesurfer Kai Lenny (Naish), young Aussie stand out Jake Jenson (Naish), leading European star, Eric Terrien, but also other leading lights of the sport such as Zane Schweitzer (Starboard) from Maui, Bart de Swart (Starboad) from Holland and Belar Diaz (Fanatic) from Spain.

The competition will be intense, and provide the Philippines with an unparalleled display of performance racing set in the unique surroundings that CamSur and San Jose provide.

La Torche Pro, the world’s first Grand Slam event

The La Torche Pro France will be the next stop on the 2012 Stand Up World Series and position itself as the world’s first ever ‘Grand Slam’ event, featuring both Stand Up World Tour surf and Stand Up World Series Race events.

Following the Stand Up World’s first successful visit to La Torche in 2011, the Waterman League is excited to return to its European home in the beautiful region of Brittany for the next edition of the Stand Up World Tour, but also embark on an all new and exciting Race event as part of the 2012 Stand Up World Series.

La Torche Pro to set the standard for World Series racing in Europe

The Stand Up World Series Race event will feature a dynamic and exciting sprint course at Pointe de la Torche adopting the unique World Series heat elimiation format, while the long distance will take the riders from the City to the Ocean, through the unique waterways that lead out to the Atlantic Ocean. A complete racing challenge to determine the overall Champion at stop 3 of the Stand Up World Series.

The World Series Long distance will take place on the 4th May, with a return to La Torche on the 5th for the climactic sprint racing that will highlight an incredible week of international Stand up Paddle action in Brittany.

Dates confirmed for Chicago World Paddle Challenge

The Chicago World Paddle Challenge will take place just before the 4th July on July 1st and 2nd, at North Avenue Beach, Chicago. Bringing World Championship Stand Up Paddling to the Great Lakes, but also one of the US mainland’s most bustling waterfront cities, the Chicago World Paddle Challenge will announce the World Series’ arrival on the US mainland.

Other World Series updates and dates to note

Due to budgetary constraints, the SUP Cup Race in St. Maxime, France is no longer a Stand Up World Series event. However the next event in France will be the Oleron Island Stand Up Paddle Challenge running from the 22nd – 24th June on the magical Ile d’Oleron.

Please also note a date change for the Huntington Beach Grand Slam, with the World Tour event starting on the 2nd October and the World Series Race running from the 6th – 8th October, just south of the Pier at Huntington Beach California.
