This time around the wonderful sport of Stand Up Paddling brought us to San Francisco for the Stand Up World Series America’s Cup AC Open Paddle Pro! The Prestigious America’s Cup is the second to oldest sporting event in the world behind the Olympics, running for 162 years! It was such an honor to be apart of this event with the SUWS and show the Yatching world what professional Stand Up Paddle Racing is all about! And at the same time it was such a pleasure to see what the America’s CUP had in store for us with the amazing 78foot Hydrofoiling sailboats reaching up to 48 knots maneuvering through a windsurf like Slalom course..!

Here are some photos that I took from the recent Dad Center Canoe Race. The race honors George “Dad” Center – Hawaii’s legendary swim coach of the 1920s and 1930s. George Center, who died in 1962, was an advocate for women’s participation in water sports. The course is 25 miles around the island of Oahu, from Kailua Beach Park, to Makapuu, around Diamond Head Buoy, finishing at the Outrigger Canoe Club.

2013 Hawaii Paddleboard Championship – Duke’s Race

2013-hawaii-paddleboard-championship-dukes-race-75

This year’s Duke’s Oceanfest had incredibly nice weather…lucky we live in Hawaii. After a long trip through Alaska, it was nice to be home, although I must say we were blessed with super good weather in Alaska too. The SUP distance race during the Duke’s Oceanfest is called the Hawaii Paddleboard Championships and started off as a lie down paddleboard race but with the explosion in the popularity of stand up paddle (SUP) racing the race has a majority of SUP racers. Christian Bradley said the conditions were pretty good for the majority of the race with decent 10-20 mph trade winds but the tide was going in the wrong direction which made it a bit slower than normal. CONNOR BAXTER WINS THE “ULTIMATE SUP SHOWDOWN”!

01

Recap of Event by Connor

The 2013 Ultimate SUP Showdown was a huge success. This event took place on Oahu and it was a part of the famous Duke Kahanamoku Event. This event was alittle different in the sense that when I signed up I was in both the surf part and the race part. All the competitors had to compete in both the race and surf – which made it a fun day at the beach.

2013 Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard Race

2013-molokai-2-oahu-paddleboard-race-003

This year’s Molokai to Oahu SUP race dodged the bullet of Tropical Storm Flossie. Luckily for the racers and spectators they got sunny skies and some trade winds. Unfortunately though, Flossie was still messing up the wind and water conditions which caused the race to be one of the hardest in M2O SUP history.
