SUP at Cojo and Percos

mike-lee-on-standup-board.jpg

This was sent in by David Powdrell. Here’s what he had to say on what looked like a fun session up in Bixby Ranch.

The photos were taken during the Santa Barbara Tea Fire. We decided to get out of town and get out of the smoke for 3 days by heading up to the Bixby Ranch. All the standup surfer photos are of Michael Lee, a long time Manhattan Beach surfer recently converted to standup surfer.

First Time SUP Stand Up – Carissa and Tishya at Ala Moana

Here’s a video of Carissa and Tishya trying out stand up paddle surfing at Ala Moana.  Carissa is Kekoa’s sister and Tishya is my sister.  They are both non water people and were just visiting from Los Angeles.   Continue reading ‘First Time SUP Stand Up – Carissa and Tishya at Ala Moana’

Hawaii Kai Downwinder

Some pictures of an old Hawaii Kai downwind run with Jeff, Darin and Kekoa.  This was a while ago.

Turtle Bay to Sunset Downwinder

Here’s a video from a while back of a downwind run with Jeff, Kekoa and Teri.  I gotta give Teri props because this was her second time on a stand up board and she did great.

Surftech Blacktip Stand Up Board Tandem Video

Here’s a video of us having fun doing tandems on the Surftech Blacktip. The first segment is me and my brother Darin, then Kekoa and Teri, then me and Dominic. It’s pretty impressive that this board can float over 400 lbs and still move. Some pretty funny ‘falling-down’ moments in the video.

Downwind Run with Kainoa B, Duane DeSoto and Friends

Downwind Run with Kainoa B, Duane DeSoto and Friends

This video is from May 08.  This was one of my earlier downwind runs.  The crew was Kainoa B, Duane DeSoto and friends.  Kainoa did a different type of tandem on this run.  He had his friend Ann, who is his Access Surf partner on the front of his 12′ board and then surfed it once we got to Toes.  Once you see Ann, you will see why we have no excuses. Kainoa Beaupre Ripping on his 6-10 Stand Up

Tommy Chorman of Freedom Riding Company www.freedomriding.com sent over this video of ‘The Hammer’ surfing his 6′10″ stand up board. I’m not sure if this is Sandy’s but that’s where he normally surfs that board. You may be thinking, “That’s a small board.”

Know Your Limits – My First Experience in the Kaiwi Channel

Know Your Limits - My First Experience in the Kaiwi Channel

I got the chance to paddle in the Kaiwi Channel last week.  This is the channel between Molokai and Oahu where the 32 mile race is held.  Let me start out by saying it was way harder than I thought it would be.  I got a call from Kainoa B who I will now refer to as ‘The Hammer’ (inside joke).  He was excited about taking his boat out into the Kaiwi Channel and doing a mini Molokai downwinder.  Tommy from Freedom Surf Company was coming to get some video and photo footage (footage of Tommy surfing) and his other friend Carlos was coming along for the paddle.  Kekoa was in the driver’s seat and we were all set.
