Duke’s OceanFest Event – Recap by Connor Baxter

“Duke’s OceanFest – Waikiki” By Connor Baxter

The Duke’s OceanFest is held each summer at the end of August. It’s a week long celebration in honor of Duke Kahanamoku, who is the definition of The Aloha Spirit.

It’s one of the events that I have not missed since I started Stand Up Paddling! It’s a fun event with loads of people, good food and just an all around good beach day with family and friends.

2011 Columbia Gorge Paddleboard Challenge – Recap by Connor Baxter

SUP Event in Hood River!! By Connor Baxter

The first ever 2011 Gorge Challenge was a great, fun event. There were three different races – the Elite course race, the long distance, and the most fun part – the team relay.

The event took place in Hood River Oregon, which is one of my favorite places to go, because there is so much to do. Before the race I got to windsurf, kayak, as well as go down the rapids on a SUP board.

“Surprise” Weekend!! By Connor Baxter

The Molokai-2-Oahu Race as Jamie Mitchell states, “If you love paddling, this is the race of all races – it’s our Superbowl. I love the feeling of apprehension, the nerves and waiting to see what the ocean’s going to deliver. The depth of talent in this year’s race is unsurpassed.”

Well – the event for me started on Thursday. My dad, mom and I were to take our boat from Maui to Molokai on Friday, relax on Saturday, Race on Sunday. So preparations started on Thursday getting the boat provisioned and equipped.

The Mormaii World CUP … 3rd Event of the Maui Jim Triple Crown of SUP

All I can say about the last leg of the 2011 Triple Crown is WOW!!! This race could not have been better. The conditions were epic; East North East winds blowing 30+ knots with some swells breaking over my head in the channel.

Connor’s Re-Cap from The 2nd Event of the Triple Crown – and WINNING 1st Place!!

01

The WARRIOR CUP … 2nd Event of the Maui Jim Triple Crown of SUP

This event was from Maliko Gulch to Honolua Bay (21+ miles) on Sunday – July 10th.

This was a great race but had some of the hardest conditions. The race started at 10:45 in the morning inside of Maliko Harbor. Only 32 competitors showed up for this race – but they were some of the best from here, a few from Oahu and some from Australia. Most racers know how grueling this run is, so many opt not to compete in it. Continue reading ‘Triple Crown Event #2 – Recap by Connor Baxter’
