Hawaiian Archie Kalepa Makes Ride of His Life:

Record 187 Miles on Standup Paddleboard Through
Grand Canyon, Colorado River.

Journey Explored Connection between Native Hawaiians
& American Indians

(HONOLULU – October 19, 2009) Hawaiian veteran lifeguard and big-wave rider Archie Kalepa is no stranger to life-changing experiences. There have been many during his 46 years of life spent in and around the ocean. He never imagined that the fresh waters of inland America would deliver the most astounding experience of all: connecting his native Hawaiian experience to that of the American Indians, and incidentally setting a world record of being the first to standup paddle (SUP) 187 miles through the Grand Canyon.

C4 Waterman Ambassador/Rider racing 22 miles – flat water Oct 17 2009 for LIVESTRONG

This was sent to us via email by C4 Ambassador/Rider Chip Bock.

All,

Tomorrow is the 3rd Annual 22 mile Causeway 2 Causeway Challenge in Cocoa, FL. This is my 3rd year competing in the C2C and I won the overall SUP Div last year. It is a brutal race due to it being flat water (no following swell etc) and is one of the longest annual flat water paddleboard races in the US.

More importantly I do this race each year to raise funds and awareness for LIVESTRONG and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

14 Year Old Slater Trout Places 2nd In the World Class Elite “Battle of the Paddle” SUP Race

Slater Trout on BOP

Dana Point, Ca – The 2009 Rainbow Sandals / Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle proved to be the years most spectacular event in the fast growing sport of Stand Up Paddle Racing. The challenging elite race with four of the buoy roundings placed inside the surf break combined with consistent shoulder to head high sets pumping through the course and 110 of the worlds fastest paddlers battling for $25,000 in prize money, all made for a nail biting event that had the crowd cheering and gasping. The most talked about competitor of the Elite Men’s Division was fourteen year old, Slater Trout who managed to stay in the top three slots the entire race. Beating all but one of the world’s fastest paddlers (Jamie Mitchel of Australia) Trout claimed a solid second place finish and proved to all in attendance that he has a very bright future in the sport.

Lake Tahoe Local to Stand-Up Paddle Around Lake to Raise Funds for Animals Confined on Factory Farms

Kings Beach, CA – August 24, 2009 – Lake Tahoe local, John Merryfield, doesn’t take animal abuse sitting down. That’s why he is going to stand-up paddle the circumference of Lake Tahoe to raise awareness for animals on factory farms and much needed funds for Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization.

“I was inspired to do this paddle during a visit to Farm Sanctuary, where I met Josh Hooten, publisher of Herbivore Magazine, who had just ridden his bike from Portland, Oregon to the organization’s shelter for rescued animals in Orland, California,” says Merryfield. “He raised a lot of awareness for animals trapped on factory farms and over $12,000 for Farm Sanctuary programs. I felt it was my turn to speak out for the voiceless.”

Gerry Lopez’s ultimate SUP quiver now available in stores

Santa Cruz, Ca. (August 10, 2009) – “Surfing is a deeply wonderful thing – anytime, anywhere and any way” – Gerry Lopez from his book “Surf is where you find it”.

lopez-sup-boards-are-here_img_1

Gerry’s deep relationship with the water is exceedingly evident in the smooth lines and subtle curves of each of his three new Surftech stand up paddleboards. “The 9’6” & 10’ Surf Music boards were designed specifically with wave riding in mind. Many SUP shapes lean more toward the paddling side but I have taken the liberty of assuming the customer has already learned his paddling/balance skills and is looking to maximize his surfing performance.” Said Gerry. “The 8’11” Lil Darlin’ is basically a scaled down version of the Surf Music series but with a quad fin set-up. I have found the quad fins to work very well in wave riding … looser, faster and just as positive.” Continue reading ‘Gerry Lopez’s ultimate SUP quiver now available in stores’
