Connor Baxter Soars to 3rd Olukai Ho’olaule’a Win

img_2073

The 2014 Olukai Ho’olaule’a was a great event. It might not be obvious to everyone there, but the Olukai team invests maybe as much time in doing a community service as it does on the race days. This year as they closed out their 6th annual Ho’olaule’a they shared a giveback day at Kaheawa Wind mills. More than 75 of the OluKai ‘Ohana planted 30 Koa trees. As the racers headed home, the Olukai ohana was hard at work. Mahalo, from one of the “Maui Boyz.” Continue reading ‘Connor Baxter Soars to 3rd Olukai Ho’olaule’a Win’

Review written by: Darin Leong

The SIC Bullet 14″ Version 3 takes the ultra-popular Bullet 14 and makes it sleeker, flatter and faster.

The Board

We have been able to test the V2 and V3 side-by-side. Let me start with the obvious, both of these boards are incredible downwind vehicles. Hence the popularity of the Bullet line. Continue reading ‘S.I.C. Bullet-14 V3 SUP Race Board Review’

Review written by: Darin Leong

It has taken me awhile to work up to this board, but the Rock N’ Roller is now my favorite all around board. It is a great balance of performance and enough stability for lots of fun in all kinds of conditions.

My Boosted Boards Electric Skateboard is Finally Here!

boosted-boards-electric-skateboard-01

Back in 2012, I got to try out the Boosted Boards electric skateboard and was really impressed by it. I ended up ordering one but due to unforeseen circumstances, delivery was delayed. After roughly 17 months of waiting, it’s finally here. Check out the video below where I unbox the board and did a bit of testing with the help of my kids. S.I.C. Bullet-14 V3 SUP Race Board – First Look

sic-bullet-14-v3-sup-board-01

Here’s a first look at the SIC Bullet 14 v3. There hasn’t been much in the form of trade winds lately so I was lucky to get one day of downwind conditions between all the Kona weather and vog. I picked up the SIC Bullet v3 from Young Brothers, took it out of the shipping wrap and got ready to get it wet. Right from the start I noticed a pretty big difference in the outline and rocker. 2014 Turtle Bay Challenge Women’s Pro Surf Contest

2014_tb_womens-084315

In February, I went to the 2014 Stand Up World Tour Women’s Pro finals. The conditions were really good. Very blue skies, light winds, and the water was looking pretty nice. It wasn’t really choppy and bumpy. The waves were big enough for a decent surf contest, I think some of the sets coming in were about double overhead or so, and they were definitely rideable. Blue Planet Featherlite Hi-Performance Carbon Stand Up Paddle

blue-planet-featherlite-hi-performance-carbon-stand-up-paddle-1

Review written by: Darin Leong

I have recently been exploring the world of SUP paddles. There hasn’t been much wind for downwind runs in the past couple months, so tests have been exclusively in the surf.

In researching SUP paddles, the first thing I realized is that there are differing opinions on paddle length. Most people agree that paddles for downwind runs should be longer than paddles used for surfing, but preferences vary. 2013 Turtle Bay Challenge Wipeouts

2013-stand-up-world-series-at-turtle-bay-day-2-sprint-races-wipeouts-01

The last week brought us some huge waves to the North Shore and some crazy weather. I saw some crazy wipeouts from surfers which reminded me of trying to surf a 12′6″ SUP race board in double overhead waves. I thought I’d post these photos are from last year’s Turtle Bay Challenge surf race. The waves were pounding that day and there were some pretty gnarly wipeouts. I figured that if one of the world’s best water athletes were wiping out then I was much better off taking pictures than testing my luck in the water. Lol.
