Sander from Surftech sent over these pics from the Outdoor Retailer Expo and demo day. I spoke with Joe Bark the other day and he was thrilled at the response from everyone. All in all, I hear it was a lot of fun and more proof that stand up paddling is here to stay. I wish I was there to try all the new stuff.

The Surftech SUP gauntlet, the 4th stage of Transworlds Cali Rally is definitely a historic event. Ironically both something stand up paddle aficionado’s and haters alike should be able to appreciate!

Cool video of Bonga Perkins and Brian Keaulana doing a spin challenge and having fun. Brian’s been practicing and uses a non-traditional method. It was pretty amusing to watch.

Check out this quick video I shot on how to remove the black scuff marks on the rails of a stand up paddle board.
I met Sam Pa’e at the Surf N Sea Demo Day and got a chance to check out his tiny stand up paddle board. I think he’s taken this in double and maybe triple overhead waves. As you will see, Sam’s not a small guy so it’s pretty unreal that he can ride this board. I tried and managed to paddle it although I spent a lot of time on my knees.
I was debating whether to exercise the other day because I was tired and out of the blue a friend of mine showed me these videos. After watching these videos I can definitely see the true meaning of motivated. It would be pretty awesome to see what they can do with some stand up boards.

I was waiting for the south swell that didn’t show up today. Since I’ve been having fun doing downwinders and making decent improvements my new personal rule of thumb is that if the waves are less than chest high and the wind is 10 mph+ then I’ll do my best to go on a downwinder. It’s more stimulating for me. The wind started blazing today in the morning so I got together my buddy Luis who rode a Joe Bark lie down paddle board demo from Surftech and Kainoa Beaupre who rode the 14′ yellow Ted Spencer that I kept falling off of a few weeks back. Incidentally, Kainoa paddled that board in the Molokai race (unofficially bc he missed the application deadline) under 7 hours. I’m pretty late on a lot of posts and this is no exception. Spring break in March was a blast. We got in a week in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu. Joe Blair was on island at the same time.

Here’s a short video clip of Joe Blair helping me touch up my board. The part with the spray paint is from a repair needed from hitting the reef and busting out my fin box. I got the board fixed but didn’t get any color at their suggestion. Needless to say, it looked ugly on the bottom.

This is a quick video I shot while sitting on my board at Mokuleia late 2007. I couldn’t even stand up and paddle it was so choppy so I shot it so people can see how rough the water gets in Hawaii.

I’ve been doing a lot of downwind runs in the past 3 weeks. I just did the Hawaii Kai to Kaimana Beach (9 miles?) today. I finally did it under 2 hours and maybe that’s because I didn’t sit down as much as I normally do. Yes, I’m the lazy paddler and I realize that time is still slow.
