Jeff at C4 sent over these photos shot by Jeff Wathell of Mana Photography of their recent session at Makaha. Most people would think twice about SUP surfing waves this size but it’s nuts on a C4 Supsquatch with 7 riders. Looks like a much better use than racing. Lol. Here’s Jeff’s recap below.

A Visit to Uncle Joe Blair’s Shaping Room and a Lesson in Shaping Stand Up Paddle and Surfboards

joe-blair-2012-05-visit-02

My family and I recently went on a trip to California and we had the chance to visit Joe Blair at his HQ in Solana Beach. Joe showed us his shaping room and the basics of shaping surf and stand up paddle boards. I usually do the interviews but this time, my boys Koko and Buddy were there to help me out. As you’ll see, Koko has a lot of questions and Buddy doesn’t say much. Check out the video below. VIRUS Women’s Stay Cool Compression Crop Pants – Review

Guest post from Kari Leong (2x Winner of Hawaii Business Magazine’s Fittest CEO Contest)

crops

I was so excited to get my own Virus International Crop Pants and V Neck Top. Evan has been raving about how his Virus Compression gear helps his body to “recover” after a hard SUP session. I wake up at 5 am each morning to work out for about 60- minutes. Since I’m scared of sharks, I stick to land based exercise. Sometimes I’ll do Beachbody workout videos and sometimes I’ll go on the elliptical machine. After having three children, it takes “a lot more working out” to get my body close to its same shape and form.

2012 YEAR-END SPECIALS

2012 was another good year for SIC. Flow Sports, a successful and innovative snowboard company, picked up and is now the parent company taking the SIC brand global. This move has allowed Mark, Andres and Amir more time to explore new possibilities in SUP surf and flat water designs as well as continue to refine their winning downwind designs. In the past keeping a stock line of boards available was not possible. With our new partnerships and the support of Flow Sports we now can.

Turtle Bay Resort – The Ultimate SUP Resort

interview-with-mark-skip-taylor-from-turtle-bay-resort

If there was ever a perfect resort for stand up paddlers and surfers, Turtle Bay would easily come in first place. It’s really the only large resort on Oahu’s north shore and is positioned to give active vacationers everything they need. When I stay on the North Shore, Turtle Bay is now where I stay. Boosted Boards Electric Longboard Skateboard – The lightest electric vehicle “almost” available

boosted-boards-19 Sho Takahashi and the Boosted Board prototype

I saw the kickstarter campaign for Boosted Boards on a friend’s Facebook page in late September and was blown away. I used to have an Altered Electric MX800 skateboard and really liked it however the weight really deterred me from using it. The board had very good acceleration and power but in order to compensate for that it weighed around 60 pounds. I don’t even like to carry standup boards that weigh more than 30 pounds, much less a skateboard that weighs 60 pounds. Needless to say, I rode it a lot in the beginning with my son and eventually stopped riding it. That’s why I got so excited when I saw the campaign for Boosted Boards on kick starter. It was like nothing I had seen before and if I had to imagine how good an electric skateboard could be, this would be it. Joe Blair 7′7″ Surfboard / SUP Board for Kids

joe-blair-2012-05-visit-04

Here’s a new surfboard from Joe Blair which also doubles as SUP board for kids. This is a production sandwich construction board. My 9 year old could handle it pretty well but my 7 year old was struggling to carry it. Both were able to paddle and balance with no problem at Cardiff. I may have to get some for my boys.
