Why Connor Baxter Dominates in the Water

I was talking with Karen Baxter (Connor’s mom) and she mentioned that Connor was sponsored when he was 6 years old. That was unreal. Then she shared all these crazy stories of how Connor would ride on people’s backs, front of windsurfers, etc so I asked her to send some pictures. You can see for yourself. After seeing these pictures, it’s not hard to understand why Connor is so comfortable in the ocean and why he’s been dominating in the water. Am I a Connor fan boy? Yes. Not only is he a good stand up paddler, he’s also a great guy from a nice family. I hope you enjoy these old ads that Karen sent. She also sent the captions.

2011 Namotu World Paddle Challenge Event #1 – Recap by Connor Baxter

Connor Wins the Overall Title in Fiji!!!

The 2011 Namotu World Paddle Challenge was a great event. The first day they started off big and ran the long distance race first. They said the race was going to be 19 miles, but it ended up being 23 miles. The race was from Natadola Beach on the main island to Namotu Island and there were about 15 of us at the starting line. We were all on 12′6″ race boards – which made the crossing that much more challenging. It was a beach start and once I heard go – it was on. connor-baxter-and-robert-stehlik-at-dukes-oceanfest-2011

I shot these videos of Connor Baxter after he won the 2011 Duke’s Oceanfest Distance Race. Connor also won the surf race the day before and is on a pretty strong winning streak. Robert Stehlik did well too and had a great idea to interview Connor away from the crowd to get more in depth info on what keeps him winning.

“Duke’s OceanFest – Waikiki” By Connor Baxter

The Duke’s OceanFest is held each summer at the end of August. It’s a week long celebration in honor of Duke Kahanamoku, who is the definition of The Aloha Spirit.

It’s one of the events that I have not missed since I started Stand Up Paddling! It’s a fun event with loads of people, good food and just an all around good beach day with family and friends.

2011 Columbia Gorge Paddleboard Challenge – Recap by Connor Baxter

SUP Event in Hood River!! By Connor Baxter

The first ever 2011 Gorge Challenge was a great, fun event. There were three different races – the Elite course race, the long distance, and the most fun part – the team relay.

The event took place in Hood River Oregon, which is one of my favorite places to go, because there is so much to do. Before the race I got to windsurf, kayak, as well as go down the rapids on a SUP board.

“Surprise” Weekend!! By Connor Baxter

The Molokai-2-Oahu Race as Jamie Mitchell states, “If you love paddling, this is the race of all races – it’s our Superbowl. I love the feeling of apprehension, the nerves and waiting to see what the ocean’s going to deliver. The depth of talent in this year’s race is unsurpassed.”

Well – the event for me started on Thursday. My dad, mom and I were to take our boat from Maui to Molokai on Friday, relax on Saturday, Race on Sunday. So preparations started on Thursday getting the boat provisioned and equipped.

The WARRIOR CUP … 2nd Event of the Maui Jim Triple Crown of SUP

This event was from Maliko Gulch to Honolua Bay (21+ miles) on Sunday – July 10th.

This was a great race but had some of the hardest conditions. The race started at 10:45 in the morning inside of Maliko Harbor. Only 32 competitors showed up for this race – but they were some of the best from here, a few from Oahu and some from Australia. Most racers know how grueling this run is, so many opt not to compete in it. Continue reading ‘Triple Crown Event #2 – Recap by Connor Baxter’
